Sassenheim, the Netherlands, 14 November 2007 – Akzo Nobel Car Refinishes has contracted a new partnership to supply Sikkens Autocoat® BT for the urban mass transit companies operating in and around the city of Curitiba in Brazil.
Curitiba, capital of the state of Paraná, is already recognized nationally and internationally as a model for public transit systems and for innovative solutions in city planning. Now it will also serve as a showcase for Akzo Nobel’s finishes for commercial vehicles.
The Integrated Transportation Network (“RIT”) of Curitiba operates a total fleet of no less than 2,600 buses, serving an average of over two million passengers daily.
Through the new partnership, Akzo Nobel will not only be selling dedicated paint systems for RIT commercial vehicles, but will also offer an after-sales and technical assistance service. Including consulting services for projects, installation of paint shops at the garages, continual news updates on painting techniques and products and the development of customized colors.
The partnership was chartered by Urbanização de Curitiba S/A (URBS), a public company that manages the system of mass transit, traffic, taxi cabs and commercial transport in Curitiba.
The alliance between URBS, Akzo Nobel and Corzim, Akzo Nobel’s representative in the market of Paraná, will give the RIT companies access to Akzo Nobel’s products, know-how and complete technical solutions for painting commercial fleets.
“Quality and a better cost/benefit ratio are URBS’s parameters for the fleets that operate in the mass transit system of Curitiba and the surrounding metropolitan region. Akzo Nobel and Corzim offer exactly what’s needed by the companies that make up that system”, comments Jaap Hendrik Kuiper, Regional Manager of Akzo Nobel for Brazil and South America.
“This partnership will highlight our Sikkens Autocoat BT products, nationally and internationally. Curitiba is recognized for the efficiency of its mass transit system, and by forging partnerships with the operators and authorities of that system, we’re adding value and prestige to our brand.”
